BIOGRAPHY

Called "miraculously even and effortless", Paul Vaillancourt's performances can be heard on Luminescence Records, New Focus Recordings, Naxos, Albany Records,  John Zorn’s TZADIK label, KOTEKAN Records, Oberlin Music, Ravello, and Parma Recordings. He has been Professor of Percussion at Columbus State University's Schwob School of Music since 2001 and has been a featured soloist with the Thailand Symphony Orchestra, St. Petersburg Chamber Orchestra, Guadalajara Symphony Orchestra, Ottawa Symphony Orchestra, National Arts Center Orchestra, Aspen Music Festival, Banff Center for the Arts, Arizona State University Symphony Orchestra, Columbus Symphony Orchestra, and the McGill Chamber Winds. He has performed with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, Atlanta Opera Orchestra, Atlanta Ballet Orchestra, and Columbus Symphony Orchestra.

Paul's work as percussionist with The Zohn Collective has led to premieres and recordings of pieces by Ricardo Zohn-Muldoon, Matthew Schreibeis, and John Liberatore. Supported by grants from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation, and the Paul R. Judy Center for Innovation and Research, the Zohn Collective can be heard on the Oberlin Music label.

 

He has conducted productions of Rogers and Hammerstein's Cinderella, Elf, The Musical, West Side Story, Newsies, Avenue Q, The Little Mermaid, Mary Poppins, Beauty and the Beast, Shrek, the Musical, Les Misérables and Sweeney Todd at the Springer Opera House in Columbus, GA.

 

Equally passionate about the jazz idiom, Paul has performed at the International Trumpet Guild and International Trombone Festivals and has performed with Fred Wesley, Alex Iles, Michael Dease, Wycliffe Gordon, John Fedchock, Dominick Farinacci, Mike Vax and TPRTS, Clay Jenkins, and Tyrone Jackson.
